Who am I?
I'm a Nutritional Therapist, Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, Culinary Nutrition Expert, author, and wellness expert who helps her clients achieve the health of their dreams!
But, I wasn't always this healthy...
I grew up eating canned soup, toaster pastries, cream pies, pinwheels, school lunches, frozen meals, fast food burgers and tacos, brightly colored popsicles and eating as much candy as I could shovel in my mouth. The result? By age 25, I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, I suffered from frequent migraines and had low energy. I wasn't overweight. Not yet anyway.
I was interested in fitness and even majored in Physical Education and Health in college. I danced, exercised regularly and worked as a personal trainer. But I was following the USDA guidelines for nutrition. I was told fat was bad and to eat 6-11 servings of bread, cereal and pasta a day...which I did. Do you think I eventually became overweight? You betcha!
Years later, after having two children, I became very tired all the time, had bad allergies, frequent colds, sinus infections and bronchitis, frequent migraines, unexplained leg pain, hip pain, high cholesterol, insulin resistance and was about 50 pounds overweight. I wanted to exercise. I wanted to feel better, but I wasn't sure where to start and no energy to do anything.
Then, I met an IIN Health Coach! She taught me some amazing things about our food supply today and how I could change my life by not eating processed foods and conventionally-farmed meats and dairy. Since September 2010, I have been eating clean, whole foods, farm-fresh eggs, grass-fed meats, eliminated dairy, and I grow a lot of my own food. The result? I lost 50 pounds, have no more migraines, no more allergies, my thyroid condition is almost reversed, I'm off all medications, I haven't had a sinus infection or bronchitis since I stopped dairy, no more leg or hip pain, cholesterol is normal and I have tons of energy all day long for my active kids!
I even managed to get my kids and husband on board and they don't drink juice anymore, we've nixed the frozen nuggets and fish sticks and they enjoy the same dinner as the adults. It is possible to get your kids to love broccoli, zucchini and kale - it just takes some time and creativity!
I'm excited to now share with others the amazing, life-changing experience I went through.
The picture on the left is me on my fat-free, Standard American diet, full of convenience foods, gluten and conventional beef. On the right, is me after shedding 50+ lbs and eating a full-fat, whole foods diet of grass-fed beef, organic veggies and no more gluten!
I am a graduate of the Nutritional Therapy Association. I am skilled in determining the best path for you to overcome health issues, hormone imbalance, and autoimmune disease. As a Nutritional Therapist, I will help you feel better, have more energy and achieve your health goals.
I also graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where I learned innovative coaching methods, practical lifestyle management techniques, and over 100 dietary theories; everything from Ayurveda, gluten-free, and Paleo, to raw, vegan, and macrobiotics, and everything in between.
Additionally, I attended the Academy of Culinary Nutrition in 2016 and graduated with Honors. This program taught me how to use food as medicine, which foods to eat for optimal, therapeutic nutrition and how to prepare plant-based foods that taste amazing!
I also have a four-year degree in Health & Human Performance from the College of Charleston. I minored in Community Health and spent my early years as a Personal Trainer and managing a resort fitness center.
My education has equipped me with extensive, cutting-edge knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and disease prevention. Drawing on my expertise, I work with clients like you to help make lifestyle changes and choose health-promoting ways that produce real and lasting results. You will develop a deeper understanding of food and lifestyle choices that work best for you, improving your energy, balance, health, and happiness.
Each session will leave you feeling inspired and motivated. We will talk about things beyond food, seeking to bring balance to important elements of your life such as love and relationship as well as career and money. I will personally and carefully guide you to make simple, small changes that transform your life.
I have a home practice in Northern VA, but also work out of Dr. Daniel Amen's office in Reston, VA, on Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you are not local to me, we can "meet" virtually over the phone or via Skype.
